A lesson learned with journaling is that doing them at night isn't the most effective. At night, especially right before sleep, I really have no desire to journal; I just want to sleep. Thus I get really crabby about journaling and put that mood onto my thoughts in the journal. In the future I'll try journaling earlier to see how that changes my journaling effectiveness.
Another lesson learned is the effectiveness of the journal in relationship to my level of daily activity. If I really am not doing a lot of planning or problem solving, the journal seems to use a lot of its usefulness. It really comes in handy when I can use it to organize ideas or thoughts for use in some sort of action. If that isn't the case it becomes more ambiguous which doesn't work as well for me.
For the time being, I'll be keeping with the short posts until I hit a bigger breakthrough.
